UPDATE: MOVING INDOORS DUE TO RAIN; CASINO THEATRE, 10 FREEBODY ST NEWPORT
ABOUT THE FILM: For thirty five years cowboy poets have gathered from across the American West to share their poems and songs in Elko, Nevada. The inspiration for their poems are wide ranging from environmental causes to the creative process itself. In a changing world the poems have an ever resonant message for us all. It is a film about accepting a changing world, and of our need to create, gather, and share.
The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering began in 1985, and quickly became a phenomenon, now an ageing base of performers and audience alike are seeing a younger generation of a very different West coming through to the stage.
Against this backdrop of Americana, our characters navigate the challenges of a this changing Western world, and an America reflecting on its history and divisions. The cowboy poets must face climate change deniers, whilst they suffer the direct results themselves with increasingly ferocious droughts and wildfires ravaging their ranches and way of life.
The cowboy poets are not the stereotypes many expect, we find poets who are ardent environmental campaigners, and they tell an important truth to those who so sorely need to hear their message.
