organizational background
newportFILM, a year-round, nonprofit documentary film series, screens approximately 30 films annually, with its summer outdoors series alone attracting over 20,000 people from June through September. During the summer months, newportFILM produces free, public screening events at iconic outdoor locations in Newport and Aquickneck Island. Featuring filmmaker conversations, live music and community partnerships, newportFILM has become an important cultural anchor in the state of Rhode Island since its founding in 2010.
In the off-season, newportFILM screens impactful documentaries both virtually and in-person at various locations within Newport and Rhode Island. Leveraging strong local partnerships, newportFILM centers documentary film as a means to build and amplify community engagement. With its edu program, newportFILM hosts environmental screening events for middle students and facilitates a youth-powered, community-driven documentary film learning lab at the Florence Gray Center for high school aged students. For emerging filmmakers, newportFILM hosts a nationally recognized, annual cinematography lab to mentor and launch promising talent into the field of nonfiction visual storytelling.

newportFILM Summer Event Interns are asked to commit for the length of the summer outdoor series season, Thursdays June-End of August, dates to come. Arrangements can be made in advance with your newportFILM supervisor to accommodate fall school scheduling. In addition, a schedule with required events is below. Please look over the dates carefully and let us know if you anticipate any conflicts:
Onboarding Meeting DATE & TIME TBD (will be based on everyone availability)
– Event Dates: TBD Thursdays – hours will be set once all interns are hired.
– newportFILM Summer Benefit, July 6, 2024 at IYRS, 1:00PM – 9:00PM
As the Event Intern, you will be responsible for the following;
Hours:
Wednesday: Extra hours will be available for event storage space cleanup or office assistance each week if needed
Thursday: 1:00 pm – 11:30 pm – Event Shift
Friday: Extra hours will be available for event storage space cleanup or office assistance each week if needed
Total: 15 Hours / Week
