On Tuesday, October 6th, we held a community screening at Providence’s Hope High School of UNBOWED, directed by Rhode Islander’s own Mae Gammino and David H. Wells.
UNBOWED follows the life of Dr. Omar Bah, an exiled Gambian journalist who became the founder of Providence’s Refugee Dream Center. The entire evening was a testament to the importance of showcasing local stories and the transformational power of community.
Dr. Bah, Mae and David were joined by Chief Legal Counsel for the Lawyers’ Committee for RI Amy Romero, for a post-film conversation moderated by RISD Associate Professor Jessica Roberts. We were also joined by Hope High School students in the filmmaking CTE program, where newportFILM serves as an industry partner. The students helped with all aspects of production, including backstage tech and front-of-house!
