It’s that time of year again!
The annual filmophile festival known as Sundance kicks off today & we could not be more excited for what the documentaries this coming week will have in store.
newportFILM Executive Director Terri Conners & Artistic Director / Programmer Andrea van Beuren are en route to Salt Lake City, UT to fill their brains to the brim with the world’s most anticipated docs.
What began in 1981 started by legendary actor Robert Redford & a group of friends to “create an environment designed to foster independence, discovery, and new voices in American film”, now boasts over 45,000 attendees & emerges some of the most sought after films of the year.
Past films that have screened at newportFILM that saw their premiere at Sundance include 2013 Oscar Winning Searching for Sugarman, Blood Brother, Chasing Ice, Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present, The Queen of Versailles, Project Nim & Senna.
(Fun Fact: newportFILM Intern-of-all-trades Tim Mendonca worked on Infinitely Polar Bear starring Zoe Saldana & Mark Ruffalo while it filmed in Rhode Island last spring that will be premiering at the festival!)
