ABOUT THE FILM: Maria Bamford has spent her entire career saying the quiet parts out loud and turning the fears most people bury into comedy that’s both catharsis and chaos. Paralyzed By Hope: The Maria Bamford Story, directed by Judd Apatow and Neil Berkeley, is an intimate portrait of an artist who’s spent decades mining her mental health, family history and everyday misadventures for something honest…and hilarious.

Tracing her path from a self-described “dark kid” in Duluth to a boundary-pushing comic, the film tracks the unpredictable arcs of her career, relationships and mental health. Utilizing archival footage and conversations with the people who know her best, Paralyzed By Hope reveals a woman who turned vulnerability into creative energy and showed us what success looks like when the goal is simply to connect.

With Maria’s stand-up acting as a narrator, the film pulls from her jokes, characters and raw onstage confessions to walk us through the chaos, clarity, and humor of her life. These performances allow Maria to help tell her story the only way she can…with humor and zero filter.
