newportFILM’s Cinematography Lab is the first-of-its-kind mentorship program for early-career documentary cinematographers. Over three days in October, selected fellows engage with notable mentors and peers, sharing their work, reflecting on their processes, and connecting over the aesthetic and professional challenges faced by today’s nonfiction filmmakers.

The 2024 Cinematography Lab will be held from October 18th to 20th at the Norman Bird Sanctuary. By supporting this essential program, you play a crucial role in launching promising careers in documentary filmmaking and enriching our local creative community. Your contribution is fully tax-deductible. Thank you!

“A collaborative space for documentary cinematographers is hard to come by and the lab hosted by newportFILM is a hidden gem for this community. The connections I made with the cohort of fellows, mentors and the newportFILM staff are ones I hope to keep alive as I continue throughout my career because of how much inspiration, energy and passion they bring to my own craft.” -Matteo Moretti, 2023 Lab Fellow
