Our Outdoor Series is made possible each year thanks to the incredible support of local businesses who believe in the power of film to spark connection and conversation. One of our 2025 Anchor Sponsors, Newport Cannabis Company, has been with us throughout the summer, and we’re excited to share more about their story.

If the name feels new, it’s because it is. The storefront many knew as Greenleaf Compassion Center has recently transitioned into Newport Cannabis Co, led by local entrepreneur and longtime newportFILM supporter Octavius Prince.
Octavius’s path into the cannabis industry was shaped by a personal experience: seeing how medical cannabis made a meaningful difference for a loved one. That inspiration eventually led him to found Hangar 420, one of Rhode Island’s leading cultivators, before taking on this new venture in Newport.
At Newport Cannabis Co, the focus is on thoughtful change — retraining staff, revamping the selection, and prioritizing fair pricing — all with the goal of making the shop a trusted, community-centered destination. Whether serving longtime customers or those curious for the first time, the team is committed to ensuring that everyone feels informed and welcome.

We’re grateful for Newport Cannabis Co’s partnership in helping us keep our screenings free and open to the public this season. Their support, alongside that of our other sponsors, strengthens newportFILM’s mission to bring documentary film, dialogue, and community connection to Newport.
Be sure to stop by the Newport Cannabis Co tent at our upcoming screenings — say hello to the team, learn more about their vision, and join us in celebrating the local businesses who make our summer possible.
