On October 17th-19th, newportFILM hosted our fifth annual Cinematography Lab at the stunning Norman Bird Sanctuary, bringing together ten talented filmmakers from across the country. This selective program featured three distinguished mentors and six dedicated fellows, all engaged in meaningful feedback on their craft and the industry’s challenges.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible mentors – Cinematographer Thorsten Thielow (Love + War, Prime Minister, Girls State, Boys State), Cinematographer Laura Hudock (Girls State, King of K-Pop, Invisible Nation), and Producer and A.I. Specialist Annie Hanlon – for generously sharing their expertise and creative insight. We also extend our gratitude to this year’s fellows hailing from across the country: Fanny Texier (Brooklyn, NY), Jennifer Gonzalez (San Jose, CA), Jia Li (Philadelphia, PA), Judy Phu (Los Angeles, CA), Matt Andrew (Westerly, RI), and Tom Clement (Washington, DC). The curiosity, collaboration, and passion shared throughout the lab was truly inspiring and we can’t wait to see how these filmmakers carry forward what they’ve learned into their next stories and projects!
