On October 18th-20th, newportFILM hosted our fourth annual Cinematography Lab at the stunning Norman Bird Sanctuary, bringing together ten talented filmmakers from across the country. This selective program featured four distinguished mentors and six dedicated fellows, all engaged in meaningful feedback on their craft and the industry’s challenges.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible mentors—Robb Moss (Harvard University), Julia Liu (Still: A Michael J. Fox Film), Ruchi Mital (This World Is Not My Own), and Martina Radwan (Girls State)—for generously sharing their expertise. We also extend our gratitude to our fellows hailing from far and wide: Suzette Burton (New York City), Crystal Kelley (Los Angeles), Gabriel Long (Providence), Melissa Tinambacan (Salt Lake City), João Vieira (San Francisco), and Shuling Yong (Chicago). The energy and creativity during the lab were truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see how these filmmakers apply what they’ve learned in their cinematic journeys!
