newportFILM Technical Event Production Staff (Year-Round and Seasonal)

newportFILM is seeking two technical event production team members to support our year-round indoor screenings, special events, and large-scale outdoor summer series.

We are currently hiring for:

  • Seasonal Part-Time Technical Event Production Staff (May–August)
  • Part-Time Year-Round Technical Event Production Staff

Both positions play a key role in helping deliver exceptional cinematic and event experiences at screenings, fundraisers, and special events across Rhode Island.

Mission

newportFILM inspires, educates, and entertains by presenting current and impactful documentaries that build community and propel change.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and break down professional audio, video, lighting, and electrical equipment for screenings and events
  • Communicate closely with the Events Manager and Technical Team during setup, event execution, and breakdown
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and assist with pre-event technical testing
  • Support live video broadcasting, projection of interviews and presentations, and audio/video recording
  • Lead live sound mixing for outdoor screenings, live music, panel discussions, and announcements
  • Configure and align delay speaker systems for large outdoor venues, including millisecond time alignment on PreSonus digital consoles
  • Collaborate with filmmakers, directors, moderators, and event stakeholders to ensure high-quality film and presentation audio
  • Assist with venue site visits, equipment testing, and media file review prior to events
  • Support production of special events and fundraisers, including Friendraiser and Cinematography Lab
  • Break down, organize, and properly store all audio, video, electrical, and fiber optic cabling
  • Ensure all technical setups meet safety standards and best practices
  • Work outdoors for extended periods during the summer season
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and inventory as needed

Required Skills

The ideal candidate works well in a team setting, thrives in a fast-paced work environment, and has experience working large-scale events both indoors and outdoors.

    • Strong computer skills, including operating video playback software and video file management
    • Experience and knowledge of audio mixing systems
    • Ability to operate and set up professional projectors for both front and rear projection, as well as portable projector screens, including folding truss screens
    • Knowledge of professional sound systems, PA systems, and wireless microphone systems
    • Ability to use professional audio tools such as digital compressors, reverbs, EQs, and other plugins
    • Experience with generators, power distribution, and electrical safety
    • Ability to safely set up portable Honda generators (or similar), spider boxes, and Furman power conditioners
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to event venues and equipment storage locations throughout Rhode Island
  • Must be available on Thursdays, which are our primary screening days, with occasional Friday, Saturday, and Sunday availability for special events and fundraisers

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with audio DAWs and recording software
  • Experience working with and troubleshooting Roland professional video equipment or similar gear
  • Experience with venue management systems such as Crestron
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting professional audio equipment, including PreSonus digital mixing consoles, Sennheiser wireless systems, and Shure wireless systems
  • Experience configuring delay speaker systems and millisecond time alignment for large outdoor events
  • DCP knowledge and experience working with DCPs for screenings

Schedule & Availability

Seasonal Part-Time Technical Event Production Staff (May–August)

  • Approximately 10–12 hours per week during the Outdoor Summer Series season
  • Must be available on Thursdays from June 25 through August 27, as these are our screening dates
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying summer weather conditions

Part-Time Year-Round Technical Event Production Staff

  • Approximately 7–10 hours per week from September through June
  • Approximately 10–12 hours per week during the Outdoor Summer Series season
  • Must be available on Thursdays from June 25 through August 27, as these are our screening dates
  • Must be available on Thursdays September through June as those are our screening days 
  • Additional availability on occasional Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays is required for special events, fundraisers, rain dates, and venue load-ins

Compensation

  • $25–$35 per hour, based on experience
  • Opportunities for additional paid hours related to equipment maintenance, venue testing, special events, and technical prep days

Must-Haves

  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to event venues and equipment storage locations throughout Rhode Island
  • For both positions, availability on all Thursdays from June 25 through August 27 is required
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport technical equipment safely
  • Ability to work collaboratively, communicate clearly, and stay calm under pressure in a live event environment
